Our leaders are all born and brought up in the islands and lead both our scheduled and custom trips. On top of the broad range of scheduled tours offered, we offer a range of custom tours. Using in-house expertise, we can tailor the custom tours to suit your requirements.

G Shaktivel

Owner & naturalist

Shakti grew up watching wildlife documentaries and had a profound interest in reef fish and sharks. He pursued marine biology and worked as a researcher for the Zoological Survey of India and the Bombay Natural History Society before starting “Tribesmen.in” in 2018. His work took him to the remote islands of the Andaman, Nicobar & Lakshadweep archipelago, scuba diving off the shore and watching birds on land. He even worked for months in the Nicobar Islands. Has built an intimate understanding of the identification, vocalizations, and behaviour of every bird on the island. Also credited for the re-discovery of Pale-footed Bush Warbler (Andaman subspecies).

Shakti is an accomplished photographer who frequently assists with camera settings. Is a meticulous planner. Also fluent in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali. has traveled across the India and seen over 900 Indian birds, published numerous research articles, is one of Bird Count India’s regional coordinators, and has extensive knowledge of the island’s ecosystem and history. Making him one of the most popular and sought-after naturalists in the islands.

Jabili Rao

Naturalist

The first female birding guide of the islands. Jabili is from South Andaman itself. She knows her birds and  credited for the 1st record of Banded Crake & Ortulan Bunting and is our lead naturalist for our partner agencies like Asian Adventures, Saiyu Japan, and Rockjumper Birding.

Prodip Sarder

Naturalist

Hailing from the North Andaman, Prodip grew up close to nature and has very sharp eyes and ears to spot the birds. He also has an interest in herping and often manages to include a few of the endemic reptiles in the tour he leads and looks after the logistical requirements for all of our birding trips.

Aldrich Franklin

Naturalist

Franklin, lives in Shoal Bay, which is considered to be the best birding hotspot in the islands, and we are tired & jealous of hearing stories of endemic birds showing up in his backyard. He has a doctorate in pharmacy and also runs a pet grooming business when he is not leading birders in the jungle.

FrEQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Although endemic birds can be seen throughout the year, We tend to avoid the monsoon months for birding (June–August). Birding season starts from mid-September to mid-April, with peak birding months being December-February for endemics, residents and migrants

If you have never done birdwatching before, please contact us and ask us more about what a birding tour really involves before booking with us. 

Please refer to specific tour details. Generally, but not always, the tour price includes accommodation, meals, vehicle transport and fuel, entrance fees, ferry tickets and guide fees. Tour prices exclude camera tickets, beverages, laundry fees, any additional/optional activities (not specified as such in the itinerary),  and items of a personal nature, such as gifts and souvenirs. The tour price does not include your  flight tickets to the Andamans.

Day 1 is usually arrival day, and the last day of the tour only involves airport shuttles. Many people prefer to arrive early and/or leave late. We can indeed book extra nights before and after the trip, and we in fact recommend you let us book them, as it avoids confusion and allows us to book accommodation that is most convenient for the tour (usually the same resort used during the tour)
